Shamblott Family Dentistry Community Programs
Dentistry from the Heart
Dentistry from the Heart (DFTH) is the day we open our doors to the community and offer free dental care for those in need. Dr. Shamblott is proud to have been the first dentist in Minnesota to participate in DFTH, and we continue to recruit fellow dentists and other dental offices to join us in support of this wonderful program.
We’ve been offering free dental care for those in need; One day, every year since 2007; touching the lives of more than 600 patients by giving away more than $400,000 in dental work.
Operation Open Wide
Operation Open Wide is one of our favorite events. Dr. Shamblott started this program to support our military veterans. We work with the Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Foundation and other veteran’s organizations to find those in need, then spend a day providing all the treatment our veterans need to have the healthiest mouths possible.
This program offers free dental care to the men and women who put their lives on the line and served our country with honor and courage. Giving back to veterans is one of the most rewarding things we do.
Halloween Candy Buy Back
At Shamblott Family Dentistry, the Halloween Candy Buy Back is our way to get kids excited about taking care of their teeth while simultaneously helping the greater community. We partner with Operation Gratitude, an organization that lifts the spirits and meets the evolving needs of military and first responder communities. Operation Gratitude ships candy to US troops around the world: the soldiers eat some and share some, using candy to help build relationships with the communities they serve.
How does it work?
Right after Halloween, we invite families to bring in their unopened Halloween candy. Each year, we buy up to five pounds of candy from each child at $1 per pound. Then we ship the candy (usually well over 1,000 pounds) to Operation Gratitude. Kids eat less sugar, parents steal less candy, and soldiers around the world are happier. Everybody wins.
Toys for Tots
Shamblott Family Dentistry is a proud supporter of Toys for Tots. We are a local drop-off site for toys, and encourage the community to stop by any time to donate toys for children in need.
We didn’t start this program, but we’re happy to support it and encourage our community to help the Marines deliver their message of hope to less fortunate youngsters in our area.
At Shamblott Family Dentistry, we love giving back to our community. It’s important for us to get involved where we can and make a difference in the lives of our friends and neighbors.
Hopkins Raspberry Festival
We happily support the Hopkins Raspberry Festival! In the past, we had a float in the Raspberry Parade. More recently, we have been supporting the young women in our community by sponsoring a Raspberry Princess Candidate each year. In 2017 our candidate, Chloe Ekstrom, became a Raspberry Princess and represented our community around the state. In 2018, we sponsored candidate Katie Costello, and she was also selected to be a Raspberry Princess!
In October 2018, we were able to invite Princess Katie and Queen Ashley to join us on a segment for Twin Cities Live. During the segment, Dr. Shamblott made custom mouth guards for each of them, to protect their teeth while the play hockey for Hopkins High School. We’re happy to promote and support our hometown team!
Hopkins Farmer’s Market
The Hopkins Farmer’s Market was started by local produce growers who wanted to share their abundance of just-picked, locally-grown produce. It also offers a variety of artisan products for all to enjoy. While the local musicians performing live most Saturday mornings don’t often play rock-n-roll, we like visiting the market and are proud to help support it!
Hopkins Education Foundation
Shamblott Family Dentistry is a proud sponsor of the Hopkins Education Foundation. Sponsoring both the Rock-n-Royal and the Royal Bash gives us the opportunity to support all that HEF does for the students and families in our school district: engaging students, enhancing the curriculum, and energizing our community of learners and educators.
We are always looking for fun new ways to get involved, and in Fall 2018 we provided new art shirts/smocks to all interested Hopkins elementary schools! The teachers seemed excited to have fun t-shirts for students to wear while doing messy art projects. In this way, we keep parents happy by keeping school clothes clean – and keep kids and teachers happy by letting them get their art smocks as dirty as they want!
Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation (Plymouth)
We are excited to support patients going through the Hazelden Betty Ford adolescent treatment facility in Plymouth. This program is a force of healing and hope for individuals, families and communities affected by addiction to alcohol and other drugs.
We provide toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss and t-shirts for patients entering the program. We also support their mission by responsibly prescribing opioids and doing our part to minimize the likelihood of addiction from needed pain medications.
Second Harvest Heartland
We thank and honor our patients who refer their friends and family members to us by contributing, as an office, to Second Harvest Heartland. We don’t have a formal partnership with Second Harvest, but we believe in their mission and choose to support them in this way
